Contemporary Art Frames
The term "contemporary" signifies the present day. Contemporary art implies a creative style or form as practiced from 1960 onwards to the present date. Artists who practice current methods or styles are called contemporary artists. Contemporary art is anything that is new as long as it is art and good art. The art works produced before the year 1960 are considered as modern art.

Contemporary art loses its contemporary tag as it ages. Most contemporary art works are commonly found in museums, galleries and public spaces. Commercial spaces also include recent art works that add to the décor value of the enterprise.

The art frames can add meaning to the subject of art apart from embellishing the boundaries of the art work. Another important aspect pertaining to framing an art work is preserving the art work through the passage of time. Dust and weather can be obstacles in preserving a timeless piece of art. Preserving interesting art works by using quality picture frames thus assumes importance.

Contemporary art can be framed in a variety of methods by specialist frame makers who ensure the longevity of your possession. Some common problems associated with keeping the art works without a frame are:

  1. Discoloration
  2. Fading
  3. Damage to art work through: light, humidity, moisture etc.
Specialist frame makers ensure conservation of art work on paper by using good quality museum mount board, archival tape etc. such that the materials in contact with the paper are non acidic and cannot cause any damage to the art work. Another important aspect is the glass used in frames. There are different types of glass that ensure protection from harmful UV rays. For egs: conservation glass, standard clear glass or image perfect glass.

Apart from shielding the work of art from UV rays, the image perfect glass can also eliminate glare. At times, reflections in bright rooms can make the picture un-viewable to the viewer. This can be avoided by using an image perfect glass.

Framing and conserving important or interesting pieces of art are not only limited to contemporary art but can also be extended to prints, photographs and other artwork.
